Newcastle United’s chances of landing Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen just increased.
Newcastle United have eased their PSR issues this season, so sporting director Paul Mitchell will finally have a budget to play with this summer.
Mitchell wants three major signings to strengthen Eddie Howe’s squad, with a right-sided centre-back among his top priorities.
Newcastle made several bids for Marc Guehi last summer to try and address their weaknesses in defence, but attention has shifted to another Premier League star.
Newcastle United in Dean Huijsen transfer race
Newcastle’s interest in Dean Huijsen dates back to 2024 when he was playing for Juventus.
However, it was Bournemouth who signed the 20-year-old defender in the summer, and his debut season in the Premier League has caught attention.
Huijsen has a £50m release clause at Bournemouth – a price Newcastle are willing to pay for the young centre-back.
Bournemouth players have admitted that Huijsen will leave this summer, but he will inevitably have several offers on the table this summer.
Real Madrid are interested in Huijsen and the Cherries star has flirted with a move to Spain, but fresh reports suggest that is not his most likely destination.
Dean Huijsen likely to stay in the Premier League
According to GiveMeSport, there are as many as five Premier League clubs interested in Huijsen’s signature this summer.
It is known that Liverpool are interested in Huijsen, but Newcastle will also face competition from Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal.
The report claims that while Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are interested, Huijsen’s “most likely destination” is a move to another Premier League club.

Newcastle still have their work cut out to try and convince Huijsen to join them over other top-flight rivals, but at least they are no longer competing with Real Madrid for his signature.
Newcastle are chasing Champions League qualification and can also offer regular game time to Huijsen if he chooses to move to Tyneside – something other clubs might struggle to match.
