The idea that Alexander Isak could soon be reunited with a face from his Newcastle United past is now off the table.
Isak, of course, left Newcastle United in the lurch in order to force a move to Liverpool back in September.
The striker has since struggled to justify the cost of the move. Liverpool broke the British transfer record to sign Isak from Newcastle, but he has scored only one goal in eight games and is now out injured.
The Sweden star has also struggled on the international front, too. His country, who also boast the talents of Newcastle star Anthony Elanga, are at very real risk of not qualifying for next summer’s World Cup.
Graham Potter has now been appointed as Sweden manager but will not be allowed to link-up with Newcastle coach Graeme Jones.

Newcastle United coach Graeme Jones will not be joining Sweden
According to The Daily Mail, Potter informally approached Jones over the prospect of joining his staff with the Sweden National Team.
The two are said to be good friends and Jones has undertaken a similar role with England in the past. The Newcastle first-team coach worked alongside Gareth Southgate at Euro 2020.
Still, Newcastle want Jones to focus on his club role and while no official approach was ever made, he will not be joining the Swedish set-up.
Graeme Jones now helping Newcastle United try to replace Alexander Isak
Jones is part of the Newcastle brain trust attempting to find a way to replace Isak.
Nick Woltemade has made a brilliant start in doing that, although does have some way to go before supporters can conclusively say it has happened.
Yoane Wissa will hopefully chip in when he finally returns from a knee injury, while William Osula is another potential option.
Jones has been helping Osula develop into a better player at Newcastle as the team look to adapt to life without Isak.
Thankfully for Eddie Howe, Jones will be sticking around to do that on a full-time basis.
