The Yoane Wissa era at Newcastle United looks set to start very soon.

After some debate amongst Newcastle United fans, Wissa will not be playing in this year’s Africa Cup of Nations.

The decision has been made to keep Wissa on Tyneside as he continues to recover from the knee injury he suffered while playing for DR Congo in September.

Imagine the scenes if Yoane Wissa’s first game back sees him score the winner in the derby 😍

Would that alone make the £50m worth it?! Feels like it would be a start…

That’s a huge boost for Eddie Howe, who hasn’t been able to use the striker since he signed from Brentford in September.

Nick Woltemade has done very well when leading the line in the post-Alexander Isak era but the German alone will not be enough to spearhead Newcastle’s attack for the rest of the campaign.

Two months after signing for the club, Wissa could make his Newcastle debut in December

Not long after the news about his AFCON fate broke, Keith Downie shared some interesting insight.

Yoane Wissa’s full focus is on Newcastle United right now

Indeed, the Sky Sports reporter took to social media platform X.

Downie has previously claimed that Wissa feels like he owes something to Newcastle, given the time and money put into signing him from Brentford.

The reporter echoed that once more, claiming: “Told it’s ‘full focus on Newcastle as priority’.”

Like Isak, Wissa set fire to his legacy at a former club in order to force a move to a new team.

Clearly, he didn’t cover himself in glory during that saga but it won’t matter to Toon fans if he comes back and finds the back of the net.

How much has Yoane Wissa endeared himself to Newcastle United fans already?!

He’s not even kicked a ball yet and it suddenly feels even more exciting. How buzzing are you?

Upon signing for the club, Wissa claimed he was very excited to play for Newcastle United.

“I’m very, very excited to put on the black and white shirt,” he said.

“I’ve got dreams, I’ve got faith and now I will do my best to make it all happen. I can’t wait to get started.”

Though missing out on a tournament for his country is hardly a positive thing for him, the fact he’s raring to go at club level in light of that speaks volumes about the player.

He’s naturally desperate to make an impact, which should endear himself to the Geordie faithful.

Caution does have to be applied, however. He cannot be expected to hit the ground running straight away, given the extent of his absence.

Still, to be fully focused on making a difference for his new club following the blow that he can’t represent his country at one of the world’s biggest tournaments says a lot of positive things about Wissa.
