Newcastle squad unites for Paul Dummett

On Friday, Dummett announced he was retiring from football. The veteran full-back has struggled to find his feet since leaving Newcastle, despite time with both Wigan and Carlisle.

Now, the 34-year-old will hang up his boots, but the Newcastle United squad was quick to let him know they’re still thinking about him.

In the dressing room after the Burnley game, the players came together for their traditional squad celebration photo. However, the focus of attention was on Bruno Guimaraes, who was holding a shirt with Dummett and his number three on the back.

The classy gesture proves that, despite all the preparation for the game and the chaos post-match, the players still wanted to show their support for their former colleague.

He was part of the Championship title-winning squad back in 2016/17, helped Newcastle qualify for the Champions League again, and can be proud of the fact he played for his boyhood club in the Premier League for the majority of his career.

Dummett was an old school defender in many ways. You would always get passion and a great attitude from the full-back, and he would leave everything on the pitch for the club he loved. Now, he gets to sit back and enjoy being a fan instead.
