Newcastle United striker Nick Woltemade was proven right when he said he wasn’t the one who jokingly slapped Dan Burn on the back of the head during Wednesday night’s Carabao Cup celebrations.
Eddie Howe’s side continued their recent momentum with a 2-0 win over Tottenham in the Carabao Cup at St James’ Park, a result that sent the holders into the last eight.
Newcastle United will play Fulham for a place in the semi-finals next month and a return to Wembley feels like a distinct possibility.
Fabian Schar opened the scoring against Spurs before Woltemade continued his brilliant form by heading in the second after the interval.
With many Newcastle players celebrating on social media after the game, Burn released some footage that would appear to get Woltemade off the leash.
Emil Krafth jokingly slapped Dan Burn, not Nick Woltemade
Burn posted a video of the players celebrating Schar’s goal in Newcastle’s 2-0 win over Tottenham.
Emil Krafth approaches Woltemade and gives him a jovial slap on the back of the head, before doing the same to Burn.
Burn, however, wrongly assumed the German forward had done so and briefly tried to get his revenge.
The England defender captioned the post: “Scene of the crime @emilkrafth @nickwoltemade.”
Woltemade responded with: “Told you” and “I don’t snitch my big brotha.”
Krafth, meanwhile, wrote: “Don’t go for them big man.”
Dan Burn enjoying playing with Nick Woltemade at Newcastle United
Burn says Woltemade has made a great impression at Newcastle following his club-record move from Stuttgart.
“I feel like that with the Germans anyway, all the German lads that I’ve played with are quite funny in their own way, got quite a dry sense of humour,” he said to Sky Sports earlier this month.
“So, yeah, he’s fit into the group really well. And I think you’ve seen it
Not only is the 23-year-old scoring goals on the pitch, he appears to be fitting in very well with the players.
Alexander Isak’s messy departure threatened to derail Newcastle’s project under PIF but the way in which Woltemade has adapted to life in England has made those worries a thing of the past.
It’s brilliant to see him fitting in so well with some of the most senior members of the squad such as Burn.
