Ewen Jaouen has now arrived on Tyneside and is set to become the first Newcastle United signing of summer 2026.
On Friday it was reported in France by Canal+ that agreement had been reached on a transfer between Stade de Reims and United.
Now Dominic Scurr of the Shields Gazette has reported that Ewen Jaouen will take his medical and finalise his move to Newcastle United today (Tuesday 9 June 2026).
The 20-year-old goalkeeper set to hopefully kick off a busy summer on the incoming front, with the likes of Anthony Gordon, Kieran Trippier, Matt Targett, Emil Krafth, John Ruddy and Aaron Ramsdale having all been confirmed as departures.
Meanwhile, Luke Edwards of The Telegraph has made public what the transfer fee is, saying his information is that Newcastle United are paying a guaranteed £18.5m for Ewen Jaouen plus an unspecified amount in potential future add-ons.
At the end of last week Canal+ reported that a transfer deal amounting to €28.5m (approx £24.6m) had been agreed between Newcastle United and Stade De Reims. So that appears to fit in with the man from The Telegraph’s reporting now of £18.5m plus future bonus payments.
The much sought after young goalkeeper had a number of clubs actively trying to buy him.
Still only 20, Ewen Jaouen has already made 60 appearances for Stade de Reims, plus another 20 across loan spells at Rodez and Dunkerque.
Canal+ also reported last week that Ewen Jaouen has agreed a four-year contract with Newcastle United.
The young keeper was reported to have visited Newcastle United a few weeks ago to have a look around the facilities etc. Then claimed to have done the same with Chelsea.
However, Newcastle United fighting off competition from Chelsea and other clubs to land the 6ft 6 keeper who has played for France at all youth levels including Under 21s.
Real Madrid were also claimed to have identified him as Thibaut Courtois’ long-term successor, however, the 20-year-old instead set for a move to Tyneside.
