Newcastle United have significantly strengthened their attacking options with the confirmed signing of Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest for a reported fee of £55 million. The 23-year-old Sweden international has put pen to paper on a long-term deal at St James' Park, marking a pivotal acquisition for Eddie Howe's side as they prepare for a return to the UEFA Champions League.

Elanga arrives on Tyneside after a standout 2024/25 campaign with Nottingham Forest, where he played a crucial role in their surprising push for European qualification. Featuring in all 38 Premier League matches, he registered an impressive six goals and 11 assists, showcasing his blistering pace, direct running, and growing creative influence. His 20 assists over the past two seasons for Forest highlight his consistent ability to set up teammates, a statistic bettered only by Mohamed Salah and Ollie Watkins in the Premier League.

Speaking on his arrival, Elanga expressed his excitement:

"I'm ready to put on this black and white top to really fight for this team and give everything for the passionate fanbase that lives and breathes football."

He also paid tribute to his former club, acknowledging the role Forest played in his development.

Manager Eddie Howe voiced his delight at securing a long-term target: "Anthony is an exciting talent with attributes that make him a unique attacking threat. His pace, energy and ability to create and score goals will strengthen us and complement the way we want to play."

Elanga's signing is a clear statement of intent from Newcastle as they look to build on a successful season that saw them lift the Carabao Cup and secure a coveted Champions League spot. His versatility across the front line will provide crucial depth and competition, particularly following the recent departure of Callum Wilson.

The move, which makes Elanga the second most expensive signing in Newcastle's history after compatriot Alexander Isak, demonstrates the club's ambition to compete at the highest level.
