Who are Newcastle United playing in the FA Cup third round?
After the FA Cup draw was made on Monday night, Newcastle United know they will play Bournemouth, with the game set to take place at St. James’ Park.
Fixtures for the third round will take place on the weekend of 10 January, 2026.
The tie will see Howe come up against one of his former clubs, with the Newcastle United manager having spent more than a decade with the Cherries across two spells.
Interestingly, the Magpies have not beaten their Premier League rivals in the last six meetings, with four draws and two defeats. Newcastle’s last win against Bournemouth came in the League Cup back in 2020.
Newcastle United’s record in FA Cup third round
Newcastle United have a rich history in the FA Cup. In fact, in the Newcastle trophy cabinet you’ll find six FA Cup titles, though their last triumph came all the way back in 1955. Other occasions when the Magpies won the trophy include 1910, 1924, 1932, 1951, and 1952.
Last season, Newcastle made it to the fifth round of the FA Cup before losing to Brighton at St. James’ Park. In 2023/24, the Magpies made it all the way to the quarter-finals but were knocked out by Man City.
However, for the three seasons prior to that, Newcastle exited at the third round stage; they lost to Sheffield Wednesday, Cambridge United, and Arsenal. Clearly, a giant-killing is not out of the question when it comes to lower league teams facing Newcastle.
Where will Newcastle United finish in the Champions League table?
Overall, Newcastle have lost at the third round stage on 42 occasions. That includes a run of four seasons between 2012/13 and 2015/16 where the Magpies were knocked out at the first hurdle.
