Newcastle United fans have been assured that the club’s owners remain in it for the long haul on Tyneside.
For the first time since the takeover of the club in 2021, there are doubts about the ambition of the Newcastle United ownership.
PIF have faced questions about the level of their ambition at Newcastle, amid a distinct lack of updates on moves to a new training ground or a new stadium.
How would you actually feel if Newcastle United DIDN’T sign a player in January?!
While PIF have brought huge success to St James’ Park, many may be wondering about their future plans for the club.
It’s all good talking about what may come down the road, but some action would be nice.
Still, co-owner Jamie Reuben has reiterated his commitment to the club’s long-term future.
Jamie Reuben underlines “long-term” project from Newcastle United owners
Reuben, who is part of the ownership group, sent a message to the club supporters on Christmas Eve.
He reflected on a historic year for the club, during which they won a major domestic trophy for the first time in 70 years while qualifying for the Champions League.
Though the second half of the year has been slightly more frustrating, Reuben again stressed that progress isn’t always linear.
What is your most favourite and least favourite thing about St James’ Park?
He stressed that those in charge of the club have a “long-term” project in place.
Taking to social media platform X, Reuben wrote: “We have had some incredible results in 2025 and our first trophy in many, many years, that is something to celebrate!
“As a fan I too feel deeply the results that go against us but success and progress never just go in a straight line, this is a long term project to restore NUFC to the highest levels of football and that work will continue into 2026 and beyond. Merry Christmas and Up The Mags.”
Eddie Howe’s expert view on what PIF should do next at Newcastle United
Eddie Howe has taken Newcastle very far since he was appointed as manager in late 2021.
In fact, he’s arguably Newcastle’s greatest-ever manager.
Still, a ceiling may be hit at some point, if it hasn’t been already.
A move to a new stadium may be controversial but it would be a fine way of increasing the club’s revenue.
Moving to a new training ground may not have that many tangible effects on the club’s finances but it would at least prove PIF’s ambition at Newcastle.
There have so far been no official updates on either and that, in Howe’s view, leaves the club in a state of limbo.
Indeed, Howe wants PIF to make progress on their plans for a new stadium and a new training ground.
While he accepts that those decisions cannot be rushed, he believes having clarity on the situation could be a game-changer for the club.
“Fundamentally, looking at the club with a broader view, the training ground, the stadium, that part of the club is in limbo at the moment,” he said.
“In terms of which direction the club is going to take, that would be a big step forward to get clarity on that and to take everything into the future in a really positive way.”
