Newcastle United’s 2025 league position makes for shocking reading, but there is one positive

As we embark on a new year, it’s worth one final look back at 2025 to see how Newcastle United fared in the overall league table for the calendar year.

We already know that the second half of the 2024/25 campaign was pretty good for Newcastle, with the Carabao Cup win and a fifth placed finish making it one of the most successful seasons in the club’s history.

How many points will Newcastle get here?

Surely anything less than 12 points would be unacceptable… 👀

However, the first half of 2025/26 has been massively disappointing, with poor away form and a propensity for throwing away winning positions costing the Magpies dearly.

As Newcastle’s hopes of another Champions League qualification fade, it’s becoming more and more apparent just how damaging this recent form has been for Eddie Howe and co.

Annual league table for 2025 is disappointing for Newcastle United

Counting up the points amassed throughout 2025 from the start of January to the end of December, Newcastle racked up 57 points across 37 matches.

That puts them ninth in the Premier League table for 2025; a bitterly disappointing finish considering Newcastle want to break into the Big Six.

Even more concerning is the fact that Brighton, Brentford, and Crystal Palace all finished above Newcastle. No offence to those teams at all — they’re top, top teams — but there’s no way the Magpies should be below them at any point.

It is worth noting Newcastle have played a game less than Brentford and could have overtaken them if they had played the full 38. However, we should also be worried that Newcastle are 14 points behind fourth placed Liverpool, and a massive 23 points away from the table-toppers Man City and Arsenal.

If you could voice one concern to Eddie Howe about Newcastle United right now, what would it be?

Yes, I know we won, but let's not pretend that was great 😂

Newcastle reach 30-year high across all competitions

However, there is one big positive to focus on; aside from the Carabao Cup win, of course.

Turns out, across all competitions, Newcastle recorded 29 wins in 2025. That’s the most they’ve achieved since way back in 1995, when the Magpies won 30 games in a calendar year.

While we may be disappointed with how the last six months have gone, 2025 was still one of the best, most rewarding years in Newcastle United’s history.
