Scott Parker is under no illusions when it comes to the challenge his Burnley side face against Newcastle United.
The Clarets head to St James’ Park on Saturday, as they aim to ensure they are not cut adrift near the bottom of the Premier League table. What awaits them is a Newcastle United side who are out for revenge after an infuriating draw with Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday night.
The Magpies could have an injury boost too, with Yoane Wissa hoping to be on the bench.
That will strengthen Eddie Howe’s attack, but it is the midfield that is worrying Burnley boss Scott Parker.
Including Martin Dubravka, there are 12 players who have played for both Newcastle and Burnley! How many do you reckon you can name!
Scott Parker is in awe of Newcastle United’s midfield trio
Ahead of his return to Newcastle United, Scott Parker has been asked about the Magpies’ midfield trio of Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali and Joelinton.
Parker was full of praise for the Newcastle United midfielders, admitting they are up there with the very best in the entire Premier League.
“Very good midfielders,” he told Burnley’s official YouTube channel.
“The three you mentioned, probably right up there with the best in the whole division. Compliment each other very well, physically and technically.
“We’ll embrace that challenge that our boys are coming up against.”
Anyone recognise the Burnley player making the mistake for Newcastle’s winner? 👀
Burnley could face a different Newcastle United midfield
While Parker is a huge fan of Bruno, Tonali and Joelinton, there are no guarantees that he will come up against them on Saturday.
Tonali is an injury doubt after coming off at half-time against Spurs on Tuesday. Eddie Howe has stated that the 25-year-old does have a chance of featuring, with the injury not considered serious.
Elsewhere, Geordie Boot Boys have suggested that Joelinton should be dropped against Burnley. He was poor in the draw with Spurs, and his physicality is best saved for the upcoming Tyne-Wear derby against Sunderland.
Out of the three players who Parker praised, the most likely to start is Bruno Guimaraes. After initially being rested on Tuesday, Bruno produced a wonderful 45 minute cameo.
He was exceptional, but could not prevent the Magpies from conceding a late equaliser. That meant Newcastle’s run of not winning when Bruno does not start continued.
