With a worrying injury list at Newcastle, and certain players not being at their best right now, it figures that Eddie Howe is keen to bring in a couple of new players next month.

There have been some interesting developments this week, too, as a number of new targets get added to the Newcastle shopping list. So, read on and check out who’s on the radar for the Magpies.

Alternatives to Kees Smit emerge

We’ve spent the past few weeks expecting Kees Smit to sign for Newcastle, but that may not be the case now. Instead, Newcastle have started to be connected with a number of other midfielders.

The latest report suggests Newcastle are interested in Jorge Carrascal. It’s said the Magpies could sign the Colombian midfielder for around £16.6m but they face competition from Marseille for the Flamengo star.

Newcastle are also linked with Kevin Danois, who might cost more than £10m. Bournemouth were keen on him in the summer and it remains to be seen whether the Cherries will go in for the young midfielder again.

Meanwhile, new target number three is Alex Toth, who is being tracked by Newcastle and a whole host of other clubs in England and abroad. He could go for around £13m and his agent has been talking a lot lately about the fact that the player will definitely be on the move soon.

Bilal El Khannous is on the radar

Last week, we reported the surprising news that Newcastle were in the market for a new winger, in an attempt to get the goals flowing once more.

Now, it has emerged that Newcastle are looking at Bilal El Khannouss, just six months after he left Leicester City for VfB Stuttgart.

The Magpies did try to sign the Moroccan international in the summer but to no avail. He’s been in great form in Germany, and is attracting interest once more.

“We have tried to utilise the foreign market without probably having the expertise in previous seasons that we need to make consistently good decisions in those markets.

“I think Ross will give us all of that. I think he will use his vast experience and build up his team and his method of work.”

Newcastle United were right to leave Jorge Strand Larsen

Another player Newcastle didn’t sign in the summer is having a far worse season now. Jorge Strand Larsen struggled again this week in the defeat to Man United and the Wolves forward is still stuck on one goal for the campaign.

Obviously, Newcastle ended up signing Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa instead, and that’s turned out to be the right move.

Alan Shearer thinks Newcastle dodged a bullet by not signing Strand Larsen, with the pundit and Magpies legend criticising the Wolves forward after his latest display.

What’s new on the Elliot Anderson situation?

Just when we thought Newcastle were out of the race for Elliot Anderson, Ross Wilson has pulled us back in with his latest comments.

Wilson praised Anderson as ‘outstanding’ and explained how Newcastle always knew he would become a top talent. If that is true, it’s unclear why Newcastle chose to sell Anderson. Yes, PSR pressure didn’t help, but surely the Magpies could have sold someone else.

It still looks unlikely that Anderson will return to Tyneside, given his £80m price tag, but we can dream, can’t we?
