Bruno Guimaraes was at the heart of Newcastle United’s impressive Premier League win over Manchester City on Saturday night.
While it was Harvey Barnes who struck both goals as Newcastle United beat Man City 2-1 at St James’ Park, Guimaraes was equally as important.
The Brazilian has perhaps had more eye-catching games for Eddie Howe’s side but put in a captain’s performance to help his side record a statement victory.
Guimaraes, who has previously been a Man City target, was also involved in a rather frank discussion with Pep Guardiola after the game.
City can point to the VAR decision where Guimaraes may have been offside as he helped tee up Barnes for his second strike.
Still, Newcastle deserved their win over Man City and the Brazil midfielder was keen to point that out after the game.

Bruno Guimaraes praises Newcastle United mentality after win over Man City
The midfielder took to social media platform Instagram after the game.
He captioned a collage of images: “What a performance from the whole team! We ran, fought, and gave everything to secure the three points against a great side! This is the mentality we need. Your support was essential once again. Howay the lads.”
Guimaraes is right. The team fought their way to victory, recovering from the blow of losing their lead so quickly after Ruben Dias briefly dragged City back into the game.
For a team who have been questioned in recent weeks, that was a fine Newcastle United response.
What Pep Guardiola said about Bruno Guimaraes after Newcastle United beat Man City
Guardiola is a huge fan of Guimaraes and Geordie Boot Boys understands that the Manchester giants have previously tried to sign him.
With that in mind, the sight of the two in heated debate after the game was particularly interesting. Guardiola played it down, however.
Pep Guardiola up to his old antics
“I said how good he is (but that conversation) is for private situations,” he told Sky Sports.
“Everything is fine.”
City did not look happy with the fact that the second goal was allowed to stand but surely they can have few complaints about dropping three points.
Newcastle were the much better of the two teams and were worthy winners.
