Newcastle United head to Manchester United in the Premier League on Boxing Day.

The day after Christmas is traditionally one of the busiest in the Premier League, but Newcastle’s trip to Old Trafford will be the only game played this year.

While millions of others are no doubt continuing to enjoy all the festivities, Eddie Howe has a lot of work to do.

While Newcastle’s response to their defeat to Sunderland earlier this month has been relatively promising, they still do not convince.

Away form has been a huge issue for months now and only a convincing victory at the Theatre of Dreams would answer some difficult questions asked about this team.

With all that in mind, here’s everything you need to know.

Date, kick-off time and venue for Manchester United vs Newcastle United

Manchester United vs Newcastle United team news

Bruno Fernandes is injured for Manchester United versus Newcastle, in what is a major blow for Ruben Amorim’s side.

Kobbie Mainoo, Matthijs de Ligt and Harry Maguire are also unavailable through injury.

Bryan Mbeumo, Amad Diallo and Noussair Mazraoui will also miss their game due to their involvement in the Africa Cup of Nations.

Newcastle’s injury list remains extensive, too. Nick Pope could play against Man Utd, but all of Kieran Trippier, Tino Livramento, Sven Botman, William Osula, Emil Krafth and Dan Burn are injured.

With around six days of rest between their last two games, Howe may not rotate quite as much for the journey to Manchester.

Manchester United vs Newcastle United prediction

Amorim’s side have certainly improved of late but, like Newcastle, they remain difficult to trust.

The Red Devils have historically been a much poorer team without Fernandes, and are missing key players in Mbeumo and Diallo.

Still, it won’t matter who isn’t playing for the hosts if this Newcastle team do not show up. Frankly, little about their away performances suggest they will.
