Not a bad shout!

Newcastle United have been rocked by the latest news regarding Joelinton’s injury.

Sadly for Newcastle United, they will be without one of their most important players in Joelinton for the final four games of the campaign.

Indeed, Joelinton is expected to miss the rest of the season with a knee injury. That is a huge blow to Eddie Howe, who has a quartet of difficult games remaining as the Newcastle United manager looks to secure a place in next season’s Champions League.

Newcastle’s midfield has been praised this season, with Joelinton, Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes often looking like the perfect blend.

Howe must react and has options. Joe Willock looks the most natural player to step in for the stricken Brazilian, although Lewis Miley and Sean Longstaff offer alternatives.

On social media, Newcastle fans have given their view of the debate.

Newcastle fans call for Lewis Miley after Joelinton injury blow

Willock did not play well for Newcastle against Ipswich, albeit it is admittedly difficult to impress when only being handed a few appearances here and there.

Online, however, Newcastle fans are calling for Miley to step into the team as the third midfielder alongside Guimaraes and Tonali.

“Not ideal news. But #nufc, please make it Miley”, added one fan.

Another said: “Lewis Miley must start. Willock and Longstaff have had enough chances, time to let Miley shine.”

“Lewis Miley should get the start on Sunday. Willock had his chance in the XI and didn’t take it,” was another comment.

One fan said: “With Joelinton injured, can we please play Miley more. Maybe it’s a fitness/sharpness issue, but I feel much more comfortable with him in the midfield than Willock or Longstaff.”

What Bruno Guimaraes has said about Newcastle teammate Lewis Miley

Miley is highly-rated at Newcastle, having enjoyed a remarkable breakout campaign last season.

First-team chances have been few and far between this season, although that’s perhaps understandable given the success of Joelinton, Tonali and Guimaraes.

Still, the 19-year-old looks the most exciting option to replace his injured teammate – even if Willock or Longstaff offer more in the way of experience.

Guimaraes thinks Miley is a brilliant player and the prospect of him linking up with Tonali and the Brazil international in midfield is exciting.

Sunday’s game against Brighton will no doubt be difficult. Last season, however, Miley proved he was built for the big occasion.
