Geordie Boot Boys understands Kobbie Mainoo is in Newcastle United's thinking before the transfer deadline.

Geordie Boot Boys can exclusively reveal that Newcastle United are keeping tabs on Kobbie Mainoo’s situation after asking to leave Manchester United.

The summer transfer window has been positive for the Magpies, with five senior signings being made. Nick Woltemade’s club record deal was confirmed on Saturday afternoon, but it appears Newcastle United’s transfer business is not over yet.

Geordie Boot Boys understand that Newcastle want a new striker, but they could also do with a central midfielder following injury scares to Joelinton and Sandro Tonali.

One player whose future at his current club looks bleak is Kobbie Mainoo. The 20-year-old has not played a single minute in the Premier League and has asked for a move away from Manchester United.

With the Magpies in need of another midfielder, transfer correspondent Graeme Bailey has informed Geordie Boot Boys of what Newcastle think of the Man United star.

Newcastle United will consider a move for Kobbie Mainoo if he is allowed to leave

As it stands, Man United are not willing to let Mainoo leave the club this summer, despite Ruben Amorim’s reluctance to play him. The England international started in Man United’s embarrassing defeat to Grimsby in the Carabao Cup, but it is clear that he has his heart set on another club this summer.

If he were allowed to leave, Bailey has told Geordie Boot Boys that Newcastle would have an interest in Mainoo before the transfer deadline.

“Newcastle are one of the teams being kept informed about Kobbie Mainoo’s situation – if he was available they would have an interest,” he said.

“Newcastle would ideally like to sign another midfielder, they never replaced Sean Longstaff so they would like one but it looks difficult.

“Mainoo’s situation remains that Man United don’t want to let him go.”

Newcastle United have been looking for a midfielder after selling Sean Longstaff

Newcastle confirmed Sean Longstaff’s emotional departure in July, as he joined Leeds United for £15m. It was an emotional exit for the Newcastle academy graduate, who made over 200 appearances for his boyhood club.

Longstaff admitted he burst into tears when saying goodbye to Newcastle, but the move needed to be done for the good of his career.

While Jacob Ramsey has signed for Newcastle, there is a feeling that he is not an exact replacement for Longstaff. The 24-year-old is a midfielder, but is more of a Joelinton alternative than a Longstaff replacement.

Reports suggest that Newcastle made an enquiry for Davide Frattesi, but there was nothing more in the deal. However, a midfielder could still be signed this summer if the stars align.

Mainoo wants to leave, and Newcastle are keeping tabs on the player, but a lot needs to happen before a deal can be done.
