Newcastle United have reportedly informed a Premier League side that one of Eddie Howe’s long-standing squad members will be for sale this summer, beginning a potentially major clearout.
Fans are eager to see new faces come through the doors at St James’ Park this summer ahead of the Magpies’ return to the Champions League next season. However, the outgoings will be just as important as the arrivals.
There are several players who are facing the music on Tyneside this summer, with Callum Wilson set to leave in the coming days if he does not agree to sign a new deal. Elsewhere, John Ruddy is out of contract, but Eddie Howe is keen to keep him at Newcastle United to continue setting an example in training.
Newcastle’s starting midfield is one that very few Premier League teams can outperform them in, with Sandro Tonali, Joelinton and Bruno Guimaraes forming a sensational partnership in the middle of the park. Because the trio have been playing so well, it leaves the likes of Joe Willock and Lewis Miley eagerly awaiting more playing time.
However, it looks like it could be the end of the road for one star, with Newcastle telling a Premier League club that he will be available.

Newcastle United tell Everton that Sean Longstaff is for sale
Despite securing Champions League qualification, Sean Longstaff will undoubtedly be disappointed with his season. The 27-year-old lost his place in the starting XI early into the season when Tonali returned from his suspension and never managed to win it back.
The majority of the 2024/25 campaign for him was cup appearances and games off the bench in the Premier League. Rumours around Longstaff’s future have circulated since January, with recent reports suggesting that Leeds United are interested in him. Now, it has been confirmed that Longstaff is up for sale this summer.
According to inews, Premier League side Everton have been informed that Longstaff is “available” this summer. The Merseyside club have had a longstanding interest in Longstaff, and it even looked like he could join the Toffees during the January transfer window.
Reports in January stated that Longstaff would be available for just £10m, a fee that would deliver pure profit for the Magpies because he is an academy graduate.
Newcastle United ace Sean Longstaff is Sandro Tonali’s most underrated player
While a deal looks like it will happen, there are a couple of issues that could arise from it. Longstaff is currently Newcastle’s only ‘club-trained’ player – they need four of them for the Champions League. If Longstaff is to leave, Newcastle will risk losing four spaces in their Champions League squad next season.
Several players have been linked with moves to fill those gaps, but they are players who have been playing in the lower leagues or are not getting a game at their current clubs.
Additionally, some may suggest that Tonali would be upset if Longstaff leaves. In a recent interview, Tonali said Longstaff is the most underrated player he has played with, suggesting fans are missing out on a lot of his talent by him being on the bench.
It was revealed that Longstaff has returned to pre-season training early, suggesting that he may be aware of interest surrounding him or that he is eager to fight for his place in Newcastle’s starting XI next season.
