The boss is buzzing 😎

Eddie Howe cannot hide his delight following confirmation of Newcastle United signing Nick Woltemade.

The Magpies have finally signed a striker, with Nick Woltemade joining Newcastle United from Stuttgart for an initial £65million. The deal also includes £4million in add-ons, which could mean he eventually costs £69million.

He becomes Newcastle’s most expensive signing ever, surpassing the £63million deal that brought Alexander Isak to Tyneside in 2022.

It has been reported that Howe is excited to work with Woltemade, with the 23-year-old boasting a huge amount of potential.

Nick Woltemade has signed a six-year deal at St James’ Park, and becomes the club’s fifth senior signing of the summer after Anthony Elanga, Aaron Ramsdale, Malick Thiaw and Jacob Ramsey.

Eddie Howe’s first words on Newcastle United signing Nick Woltemade

Following confirmation of the striker’s arrival, Howe has given his immediate thoughts on the deal.

Speaking to the club’s official website, the Newcastle United manager is very excited to welcome Woltemade to Tyneside.

“We’re delighted to get Nick’s signing over the line so quickly,” he said.

“He fits the profile for exactly what we have been looking to add to our attacking options.

“He’s strong in a lot of areas – he has great technical ability and has proven himself to be a real threat in one of Europe’s top leagues – but he’s also still at an age where he has plenty of room to develop and grow here.

“Nick is a great character too and we’re really pleased to welcome him to the group.”

How much money Newcastle United have spent this summer after Nick Woltemade deal

After two transfer windows of being plagued by PSR problems, Newcastle United have finally been able to open up the purse strings this summer – within reason.

The deal for Woltemade takes the Magpies’ spending for the summer beyond the £200million mark.

It started with a £55million outlay on Elanga, which was followed by a £4million loan fee for Ramsdale. That has to go down as great business, as he was the alternative to spending around £30million on James Trafford.

Next through the door for Newcastle was Thiaw, who cost £34million from AC Milan. Then it was Jacob Ramsey at £43million. That deal saw Newcastle take advantage of Aston Villa’s financial situation, with Unai Emery’s side needing to cash in.

With a potential £69million spent on Woltemade, Newcastle’s summer spending could reach £205million if all add-ons are achieved.

Total fee including add-ons
Anthony Elanga£55million
Aaron Ramsdale£4million (loan fee)
Malick Thiaw£34million
Jacob Ramsey£43million
Nick Woltemade£69million
