Garang Kuol did not hit the heights expected of him at Newcastle United, and now he is embarking on a new chapter of his career.
The young Aussie was sold by Newcastle United during the summer transfer window, having entered the final 12 months of his contract at St James’ Park.
Newcastle United sold Garang Kuol to Sparta Prague for £500,000, making a £200,000 profit on a player who did not live up to the hype.
There was excitement when he joined the Newcastle United academy as a teenager, but he would never make a competitive appearance for the club. He also had two unsuccessful loan spells, with Kuol enduring nightmares at Hearts and Volendam.

Garang Kuol finally gets his chance after Newcastle United exit
Now the 21-year-old is playing for Sparta Prague, and has finally started a league game for his new club.
He was named in Sparta’s starting XI on Saturday, as they beat Mlada Boleslav 2-1 away from home.
Kuol played 76 minutes on the right of attack, picking up a booking in the first half. It was his sixth appearance for his new club, but just his second start and his first in the league.
Incredibly, it is the first time that Kuol has started a senior league game for two years. Before Saturday’s victory, his last league start came away to AZ Alkmaar in November 2023 when he was on loan at Volendam.
It has been a challenging few years for Kuol since leaving Central Coast Mariners for Newcastle United, and now his Toon adventure is over. However, the hope is that he can be successful for Sparta Prague, having finally forced his way into their starting XI.
He will hope to remain there, with their next game on Thursday night against Legia Warszawa in the UEFA Conference League.

He wrote: “Thank you to my teammates and everyone who helped me during my time at NUFC.
“I wish you all the best for the future.”
Kuol then turned his attention to his new club, posting on Instagram: “Time to cook. Excited for the new challenge ahead and fighting for this massive club. All glory to God.”
