The win over Everton this weekend was a massive step forward for Newcastle, but Eddie Howe still expects a lot more from his players.
Not only did Newcastle United manage to secure back-to-back wins for the first time this season, the Magpies also registered their first victory away from home in the league.
Hello! It’s time to talk all things Newcastle United vs Tottenham. What are some of your early predictions?
Next up is a home clash against an out-of-sorts Tottenham Hotspur at St. James’ Park, with many hoping and expecting that Newcastle can win again to keep this form going.
Eddie Howe is under no illusions as to how tough the Spurs game will be, and he’s also delivered a stern warning to his players about what lies ahead if they want to keep climbing the table.
Eddie Howe enjoys Newcastle United momentum, but has a warning
In his latest press conference the Newcastle United manager was asked about the recent change in fortune for the Magpies and he was clearly delighted with what he has seen in the last two games.
“During difficult runs we knew the league would be tight and that a consecutive run of wins can propel us up the table,” Howe said. “We are in a better position in terms of the points now. A couple of wins gets us closer to where we want to be.”
However positive Eddie Howe may be right now, he wants to make sure his players do not rest on their laurels at all, and told them the one thing he doesn’t want to see from here on out.
“You cannot allow yourselves to become detached,” he added. “We know where we want to be. We need a run of positive results to get there.”
A win against Spurs would be massive boost for Newcastle United
After the last international break, Newcastle faced a tough set of fixtures leading up to Christmas. So far, they’ve won two out of two and have a great chance of making it a hat-trick against Spurs on Tuesday night.
The Lilywhites are in dire form as it is, and they have struggled against Newcastle in recent years. This could well be the fifth consecutive win for the Magpies when facing Tottenham if things go to plan.
Will Eddie Howe make it five wins in a row against Spurs at home?!
Alan Shearer thinks Newcastle can beat Spurs. If that happens, the Geordies will move above Tottenham in the Premier League table, and if results go their way elsewhere, they could end up in the top half of the division.
That momentum would be huge, especially considering the Tyne-Wear derby is on the horizon. At this rate, Newcastle could well be above Sunderland by the time the two teams meet in a fortnight.
