Eddie Howe confirms Lewis Hall injury latest amid Newcastle scare

Eddie Howe is hopeful that Lewis Hall has avoided a serious injury following Newcastle United’s win over Burnley.

Hall was excellent once again for Newcastle United during their win over Burnley to wrap up a brilliant year for the club.

While Howe’s side weren’t brilliant, Newcastle beat Burnley 3-1 at Turf Moor to claim only their second win of the Premier League season.

The victory does not answer every question about Newcastle but it did at least prevent them from slumping into a full-blown crisis.

Though Hall finished the game, the left-back twice needed treatment on the field after landing awkwardly in the first half.

Hall is one of Newcastle’s best players and the idea of missing him for any length of time would spark concern.

When asked about Hall’s injury by Newcastle World, Howe said: “I think he just twisted his ankle in that first half when he went down the first time. It was obviously bothering him in the second half, but he was able to get through it. And I’m really pleased that he did.

“We needed him too. Fingers crossed there’s no big injury there.”

Not only can the 21-year-old have a transformative impact on his side’s ability to win matches, there aren’t many other options in the Newcastle United squad.

Tino Livramento and Dan Burn are Hall’s most obvious replacements but both are injured and are not expected to return until early 2026.

Proof that Newcastle United were worried about Lewis Hall’s injury vs Burnley

After the second time Hall went down injured, young Alex Murphy was stripped and ready to come off.

Thankfully for Howe, Hall was able to continue, see out the game, and tee up Jacob Murphy – who may have been offside – for an excellent chance that he eventually fluffed.

Irishman Murphy has hardly played for Newcastle even despite a defensive injury crisis and though Howe has spoken positively about him in the past, having to rely on him would be far from ideal.

It remains to be seen if Hall is fit enough for Newcastle United’s next game, which comes on Sunday at home to Crystal Palace.

Newcastle plan to sign a back-up for Hall during the January transfer window but it would seem hugely unlikely they’d get any deal over the line by the time Palace come to town.
