What a manager Howe is!

Newcastle United enjoyed a busy summer transfer window, signing six senior players, including Anthony Elanga and Nick Woltemade.

At first, it looked like the Magpies were doomed to fail in the most recent transfer window. Eddie Howe’s recruitment team failed to sign top targets in multiple positions, with the likes of Joao Pedro moving to Chelsea and Hugo Ekitike joining Liverpool for big-money deals.

Thankfully, Newcastle United were able to make some vital additions to their squad during the summer window, with six players arriving to help improve multiple positions on the pitch. Nick Woltemade joined on a club record deal, while the likes of Jacob Ramsey and Malick Thiaw left their respective clubs for life on Tyneside.

It is unknown how much influence Howe had on those deals, but in a recent interview, he shared what he must always do during transfer negotiations.

Eddie Howe must always speak to his transfer targets before they join Newcastle

Howe had a lot of hands-on responsibilities while he was at Bournemouth, and it is relatively the same at Newcastle. That is just the kind of manager he is; he loves to put his own spin on things and provide his input wherever possible.

Ramsey said he joined Newcastle because of Howe’s reputation and was excited at the prospect of getting into the England setup like Anthony Gordon, Tino Livramento, Lewis Hall and Dan Burn have after working under him.

In an interview with Sky Sports, Howe revealed that establishing a good relationship with his new players is ideal, especially for those who are moving from far away.

“I think it depends on the situation,” Howe said of his involvement in transfer talks.

“Sometimes it can be a long time before the proposed transfer, sometimes it can be the day before.

“I don’t think there’s a set pattern with that, I think it’s very different each time. I do think it’s important that I do have that contact with the player because that relationship between us both and that trust is so important.”

Eddie Howe’s man management is among the best seen at Newcastle United

Howe has always been known for his great relationship-building skills on Tyneside. Very few of his former players will have much bad to say about him, even if they were released or left abruptly.

In a recent interview, Woltemade revealed daily conversations with Howe, focusing on his personal life and topics away from football, to try and settle him into his new environment.

Elsewhere, Ramsey praised Howe’s personality, claiming he has never heard a bad word said about him.

Newcastle could not have asked for a better manager to take over after the takeover. Howe has proven to be a quality addition to the club and can now proudly call himself an elite manager in the world of football.

While she may not be here anymore, Amanda Staveley can take a lot of pride in the fact that she fought to bring Howe to the club in October 2021.
