Goals from Joelinton, Yoane Wissa and Bruno Guimaraes got the Magpies over the line, although it very easily could have been another case of dropping points from a winning position.

Burnley put Newcastle United under a huge amount of pressure, despite looking destined for relegation. It was another poor display from Howe’s side, but a win is a win.

The Newcastle United legend wrote: “A tough watch at times but a huge win which hopefully builds some much needed confidence.”

Tough watch is putting it mildly. After scoring twice in the first seven minutes, it looked like it was going to be an easy night for Newcastle United.

Instead, they allowed Burnley to get back into the game. Scott Parker’s side halved the deficit, before creating plenty of chances to draw level.

Fortunately, the combination of Nick Pope and the woodwork ensured that the Magpies were victorious.

Newcastle United must use Burnley win as momentum

After three Premier League games without victory, it was essential that Newcastle United returned to winning ways on Tuesday night.

They did just that, and must now use this win as momentum ahead of two more winnable games.

The Magpies are heading back to Tyneside for a St James’ Park double-header, with games against Crystal Palace and Leeds United to kick off 2026.

While they are not easy fixtures, Newcastle United will go into them as favourites. And if they can pick up six points, they will be firmly back in the race to qualify for Europe.
