At a time when pressure is seemingly piling on Eddie Howe, the Newcastle United manager has been given a high honour putting him alongside club greats like Glenn Roeder.
With Newcastle languishing in 14th place in the Premier League table right now, it’s safe to say the spotlight is on Eddie Howe and his Magpies squad.
Things need to turn around soon, or the Newcastle owners may have a difficult decision to make on Howe’s future at the club.
However, after four years of success with Newcastle United, Howe has been recognised as one of the club’s all-time greats.
Eddie Howe joins Newcastle’s Hall of Fame
At the annual Newcastle United Foundation’s Celebration Dinner at St. James’ Park on Tuesday night, Howe was bestowed the honour of being inducted into the club’s Hall of Fame.
On the decision, the Foundation said: “We proudly welcome Eddie Howe into the Newcastle United Hall of Fame. Since his arrival in November 2021, Eddie has set new standards for the club – bringing Champions League football back and ending a 70-year wait for domestic silverware. An extraordinary leader.”
Newcastle legends Glenn Roeder and John Anderson were also inducted into the Hall of Fame for their contributions over the years.
They join the likes of Les Ferdinand, Shola Ameobi, Kevin Keegan, Andy Cole, Peter Beardsley, and of course, Alan Shearer.
Eddie Howe’s managerial stats at Newcastle
To date, Eddie Howe has racked up 190 games as Newcastle manager, winning 99 of them to achieve an impressive 52.1% win rate. He has lost 55 games and has a points-per-game ratio of 1.75 across the 190 matches.
There are some who say Howe has done enough to protect his job for the foreseeable, given the Carabao Cup win and Champions League qualification of last season. Others suggest the club has another level to unlock, and that Howe cannot get them there.
To be fair to Howe, he has a brilliant record when comparing it to past Newcastle managers. His 52.1% win rate puts him third in the ranking of managers (with more than ten games in charge), behind only Kevin Keegan (54.9%) and Chris Hughton (59.4%).
