Oliver Glasner knows what to expect when his Crystal Palace side face Newcastle United at St James’ Park.
Newcastle United fans are preparing to watch their team for the first time in 2026, as they get set for a run of four consecutive games at St James’ Park.
It is a real opportunity for Eddie Howe’s side to lay down a marker, starting against Crystal Palace.
Wissa has to start against Palace! Tell me I’m wrong!
But that will not be easy, despite Crystal Palace’s recent poor form. Newcastle United have not been great themselves, looking far from convincing in the 3-1 win over Burnley.
Being at home should give the Magpies an advantage on Sunday, but Glasner is keen for his team to silence the St James’ Park crowd.
Oliver Glasner expecting ‘great atmosphere’ for Newcastle United vs Crystal Palace
The Crystal Palace manager has spoken about St James’ Park and the atmosphere that Newcastle United fans create during his pre-match press conference.
Glasner has spoken highly of the Toon Army, having experienced them for the first time in his career last season.
“It’s a great stadium and great atmosphere,” he said via Crystal Palace’s official website.
“But many of our players know it, so they’ve played there more often than I did. I just experienced it last year.
“It’s up to us to keep the crowd quiet.”

Newcastle United mocked Crystal Palace on their last St James’ Park visit
Glasner has managed against Newcastle United three times in his career, but only once at St James’ Park.
His one trip to Tyneside came in April 2025, with Eddie Howe’s side putting Palace to the sword with a 5-0 victory. Newcastle United blew the Eagles away, although it could have been different had Eberechi Eze scored a first-half penalty.
After the game, Newcastle United actually mocked Crystal Palace. Following the full-time whistle, Glad All Over by the Dave Clark Five was played through the stadium speakers, which is a famous Crystal Palace anthem.
It seemed a bit unnecessary after a routine victory without incident, and it will be interesting to hear what the Newcastle United DJ plays on Sunday if Howe’s team are victorious again.
