Bruno Guimaraes is under no illusions when it comes to how good he has been for Newcastle United this season.

The 28-year-old has probably been Newcastle United’s best player, with Malick Thiaw the only genuine challenger for that accolade.

The 2025/26 season has seen Bruno Guimaraes reaffirm his position as one of the Premier League’s best midfielders, while he is also adding more goals to his game.

At the start of the campaign, Newcastle coaches wanted Bruno to get in the box more. He has done just that, resulting in him finding the net six times so far – although two of his goals have been from outside the box!

The Brazilian midfielder has been a difference-maker in the final third, and he has spoken to the Brazilian media about his goal contributions.

Bruno Guimaraes says he is having a ‘spectacular’ season

In an interview with Globo Esporte, Bruno has reflected on the first half of the 2025/26 season.

While Newcastle United as a team could have done better, the Toon skipper is more than happy with his own performances.

“It’s been a spectacular season for me so far, individually,” he said.

“I’ve managed to maintain the team spirit and commitment, but right now I’m also contributing to goals. It’s not what will dictate what I do on the field, but it’s definitely an improvement to my game and a step forward.

“It’s about maintaining this momentum for the rest of the season and making sure these numbers help the team achieve its goals.”

Newcastle United players must match Bruno Guimaraes

Bruno is right. He has been spectacular this season.

The problem is that Newcastle United have not been spectacular as a team. Instead, they have been worryingly inconsistent and almost unrecognisable away from home.

Sound logic or stubbornness from Eddie Howe here?

He was NOT happy with the idea that Newcastle faced an ‘onslaught’ against Burnley!

While Bruno has delivered, too many of his teammates have not. Jamie Carragher recently said that Anthony Gordon has been ‘poor’ this season, while Sandro Tonali is out of form at the moment. There are plenty of other Newcastle United players who have not delivered, but they are the two biggest names that stand out.

In his defence, Sandro Tonali’s form is only a recent issue, but Anthony Gordon has been hit and miss for the past 12 months.

The rest of the Newcastle United squad need to stand up and take notice of what Bruno has said. He is performing at an elite level, and it is up to the rest of the team to match him.
