Tino Livramento proved his worth to Newcastle United again at the weekend, but his performance against Man City may well have pushed him closer to the exit door.

For the past few weeks, Newcastle have had to make do without Tino Livramento. Kieran Trippier has stepped in during Livramento’s absence, but the difference between the two was clear on Saturday.

Who was your Newcastle United MOTM against Manchester City?

Eddie Howe was delighted with Livramento’s performance against Man City. The England international kept City’s wingers at bay and effectively starved Erling Haaland of service in the middle.

But, speaking after the game, the 23-year-old had a worrying update regarding his contract at Newcastle, and it’ll set alarm bells ringing for any Magpies fan.

Tino Livramento doesn’t know what’s happening with his contract

We know how important Livramento is to Newcastle. Tying him down to a new contract is a top priority for the Magpies, but when asked if any progress has been made on that front, the man himself had little to offer in the way of an update.

“It’s nothing that I’m in control of. I leave that to my dad, to my agent,” he said.

“For me, I’ve been out for seven weeks. I’ve been working really hard to come back and obviously help the team,” Livramento added. “I’m happy with how I’ve played. That’s my focus, staying where I’m at now. That’s always been my focus, helping the team as much as I can.”

His current deal expires in 2028, which feels a long way off, but given the attention he’s attracting lately, that would mean very little to any potential suitors.

Manchester City will have been impressed by Livramento

Eddie Howe made the right call bringing Livramento back into the team for Saturday’s game against Man City, with the young defender proving pivotal to the win. However, it may have backfired in the long run.

Man United are keen on signing Livramento, while City have also got the full-back on their shortlist for next summer.

Reminder: Paul Mitchell once thought that Newcastle United overspent on Tino Livramento and Lewis Hall.

In May 2025, The Daily Mail claimed that Paul Mitchell “made no secret of his belief the club overpaid for Lewis Hall and Tino Livramento.” 🤣

Pep Guardiola will no doubt have been impressed with what he saw from Livramento at the weekend, especially given his own full-backs struggled to contain Harvey Barnes.

But, we also know Livramento appreciates Newcastle’s faith in him and he would not be quick to turn his back on the Magpies. Still, if Newcastle do miss out on Champions League football this season, it may be difficult to ignore the advances of Guardiola come the summer.
