Newcastle United may have a big decision to make regarding Will Osula in January.
The 22-year-old almost left Newcastle United during the summer transfer window, with a deadline day move to Eintracht Frankfurt collapsing late on.
Newcastle United decided to keep Will Osula, and that has proven to be the correct decision.
What followed was an injury to Yoane Wissa which has resulted in him still not making his Toon debut. That has given Osula more opportunities, and he has certainly taken them.
But with Wissa almost fully fit and the January transfer window looming, Osula’s future is about to come into focus yet again.
Will Osula, keep or sell in January?
Newcastle United cannot afford to sell Will Osula in January
Ever since his move to Frankfurt fell through, Osula has still been talked up over a switch to the Bundesliga.
That has continued, with Bild reporting that Frankfurt are going to make a fresh approach for the striker when the January transfer window opens.
Interestingly, Bild add that Osula wants the deal to happen. The German outlet claim that he is ‘determined’ to join Frankfurt, who see him as a ‘top priority’.
Despite that, Newcastle absolutely cannot afford to let Osula leave. Given the striker troubles they have had so far this season, it would be negligent to let him depart.

While Wissa is almost available to feature, his fitness cannot be guaranteed. This knee problem has taken a long time to heal, and there are no certainties over his long-term fitness.
Nick Woltemade needs as much support as possible, so it would be a mistake to let Osula leave just because Wissa is closing in on a comeback.
The only way Newcastle United can justify letting Will Osula leave
However, there is one situation that could allow Osula to get his wish and leave Newcastle United.
The January transfer window will be a disaster unless Newcastle United sign a_____
A Toon departure should only be sanctioned if a replacement comes in. And that replacement would need to arrive first before signing off Osula’s exit.
It has been suggested that Newcastle could look for a striker in January, but that is easier said than done. Whoever arrives will likely be third choice, which is a difficult sell for prospective arrivals.
There is also a fear that Ross Wilson’s priorities lie elsewhere, with Newcastle targeting full-backs and a centre-midfielder in January. Getting a new striker might simply not be possible.
If it isn’t then Osula cannot be allowed to leave. It is as simple as that.
