Anthony Gordon appears to be looking forward to a successful future at Newcastle United.
Gordon is certainly a figure who can divide opinion among the Newcastle United support.
The England international hasn’t scored from open play in the Premier League for almost a full year now, but he has still been one of their most effective players this season.
What are your thoughts on why Howe does not pick Gordon to play right wing?
It seems harsh that Barnes has to keep playing on his weaker side!
Though all have come from the penalty spot this season, Gordon has scored seven goals across all competitions.
To pretend he has fully convinced would be unwise, but it would also be unfair to suggest he’s enduring an absolutely terrible campaign.
Indeed, it seems as if the player himself is looking forward to the long-term future at the club.
Anthony Gordon says he hopes for more Newcastle United success
Gordon reportedly has a release clause in his Newcastle contract and has previously been linked with the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea.
Liverpool almost signed Gordon in 2024 and he has since admitted being so close to a move back to the team he supported as a boy had an impact on him.
Still, and while Gordon was criticised last season, he did at least show up and get on with it – unlike Alexander Isak.
Having moved past that, Gordon recently made his 100th Premier League appearance for Newcastle.
Speaking to reporter Andy Sixsmith, Gordon said he was hoping to make many more appearances for the club.
“It’s probably been the best three years I’ve had in football and in life too – so it’s just a good time for me and my family. Hopefully there’s many more appearances and success here too!” he said.

Gordon says Newcastle United fans have something wrong about him
Gordon was also asked about his Premier League form for Newcastle.
Interestingly, he suggested that the statistics weren’t fair. Gordon believes he’s playing well and that purely looking at the goals and the assists doesn’t offer an accurate reflection.
“Statistically I haven’t been where I want to be as a player – I want to be right at the very top – but for the most part I’ve had consistency in my performances,” he said.
“Nowadays stats are all that matters it seems and that’s ruined football a little bit. You can play well – do so much for your team but if you don’t score or assist you haven’t played well!
“I don’t really think about it because ultimately I’m trying – there’s nothing more I can do than that. I haven’t had too many chances where I should have scored – if I had that would bother me.”
Gordon has been criticised this season, but he’s not entirely wrong.
While not to say he can’t do better, he has produced some fine displays against Tottenham, Bayer Leverkusen and Chelsea.
He ranks within Newcastle’s top three players for shots (1.6) and key passes (1) per game. Not everything has come off for him, but he’s not in an absolute crisis.
