Newcastle United have injury concerns heading into Tuesday night’s Champions League clash away at Marseille.
While Newcastle United recorded their most morale-boosting win of the campaign to date by beating Manchester City, Eddie Howe’s side do not have long to bask in the glory.
Indeed, Newcastle are soon back in action as they head to the French side to continue their Champions League campaign.
Europe’s elite club competition has been kind to Newcastle this season, but an away trip to an in-form team is yet another test for them to navigate.
Howe will need all his players available given the relentless fixture schedule, so here’s a look at the latest Newcastle United team news and potential return dates.
What Eddie Howe and the pundits said about Newcastle United’s statement win over Manchester City.
Lewis Hall
Lewis Hall offered a timely reminder of just how good a player he is by impressing against Manchester City.
It was brilliant to see the left-back prove once again that he’s capable of making an impact at the highest level.
Still, caution should be applied. Howe confirmed that Hall still wasn’t fully fit for Newcastle when speaking after Saturday’s game.
Should England take Lewis Hall to the 2026 World Cup?
“He’s still sort of some way short of being able to complete 90 but the minutes that he did play, I thought he was outstanding,” he said.
Though he is only thought to have suffered cramp against City, it would not be a surprise to see him rested on Tuesday with Dan Burn free of suspension.
Potential return date: Saturday, 29 November, 2025 vs Everton
Anthony Gordon
Anthony Gordon missed the game against City with a hip problem, one that he exacerbated against Athletic Bilbao after the international break.
The 24-year-old has been criticised this season but would surely relish the chance to impress in the Champions League again, as well as against former club Everton on Saturday.
Luckily for Newcastle, Howe confirmed that Gordon was close to a return when speaking after the City game.
“Anthony is very close. He was just not quite ready today,” he said.
“He is working hard, and he will be ready in the next few days.”
Potential return date: November 2025
Kieran Trippier
Kieran Trippier has been standing in for Tino Livramento in recent weeks but was ruled out against City with a hamstring issue.
It remains to be seen when the veteran will return to the fold, with the Newcastle United manager sounding unsure when speaking in his post-match press conference.
“Kieran – I’m not sure if he will make it, I am awaiting feedback from the medical team,” he confirmed.
Potential return date: Unknown
Yoane Wissa
Yoane Wissa’s fitness has been the major talking point among supporters this season.
The striker is yet to play for the club and while that is frustrating, perhaps there has been progress in recent weeks.

Wissa is ready to start a “pre-season” training schedule at Newcastle as he looks to build up his fitness.
His return date remains unclear but there has at least been no further setback.
Prior to the Man City game, Howe said: “He’s working well. He’s not back training with us yet but he’s close.
“He’s working with the sports science team and almost entering a pre-season with them currently. He’s done a lot of work, he’s looked good and looked better with every session. He’s close to training with us but before he gets to there it’s difficult to give you a return date.”
Potential return date: Unknown
William Osula
William Osula is another injury concern for Newcastle United, with the forward dealing with an ankle problem.
Howe confirmed that the forward would go and see a specialist, although that isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
Like Wissa, Osula’s return date is unclear.
“I think he might be going to see a specialist on Monday,” said Howe.
“Not necessarily on a negative, but just to get sort of full clearance that he’s OK to continue as he is. So we won’t see him back sort of in the next couple of games, I don’t think.”
Potential return date: Unknown
