It looks set to be an exciting summer transfer window for Newcastle United.
The 2024-25 season has already been a history-making one for Newcastle United after they clinched the Carabao Cup but they have to end it strong.
Eddie Howe’s side are on the cusp of securing their return to the Champions League with three fixtures remaining.
But they will be far from easy games against Chelsea, Arsenal and Everton. Securing a spot in Europe’s top football competition will be crucial in determining what calibre of player Newcastle can sign in the summer.
An eventful transfer window looks in store for the club and this is all the information you need.

When does the summer transfer window open?
The summer transfer window will actually open in two different phases in 2025.
Premier League clubs will be able to make signings from Sunday, June 1, but the first window will only be open briefly before closing again just nine days later on Tuesday, June 10.
The window will then open again the next week on Monday, June 16, and remain open as normal for the rest of the summer.
Why does the transfer window close and open again?
The Premier League has agreed to open the window earlier than normal for a brief period so teams that will compete in the Club World Cup this summer have the chance to register new players beforehand.
Chelsea and Manchester City will be the only teams competing in the newly expanded tournament but every club will be able to utilise the new window and make signings during the period.
However, it’s not clear why the window shuts again for just six days instead of staying open.
When is the summer transfer deadline day?
Transfer deadline day will come on Monday, September 1.
There was a suggestion that it could shut before the 2025-26 Premier League campaign gets underway on August 16, but it will instead stay open throughout the month.
Top targets for Newcastle United in the summer transfer window
After not spending much of PIF’s wealth in recent windows, Newcastle look likely to splash the cash this summer ahead of their likely return to the Champions League.
Howe will want to improve several positions in his squad, with a new goalkeeper, centre-back and forward all on his wishlist.
Some of the names Newcastle have been heavily linked with so far include:
- James Trafford
- Marc Guehi
- Bryan Mbeumo
- Liam Delap
- Dean Huijsen
How much can Newcastle spend in the transfer window?
Newcastle have been hampered by PSR restrictions in recent years and were forced to sell Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh last summer to ensure they remained on the right side of the rules.
However, after making some smart sales in January, it looks like Newcastle will have much more freedom this summer to make big-money signings, even if they won’t be able to spend wildly.
