Good timing!

Newcastle United will soon announce the signing of Nick Woltemade for a club record fee, but they are still hopeful of signing another striker before the window closes.

It is gearing up to be a very exciting end to the summer transfer window. With deals happening throughout the Premier League.

Newcastle United are no exception, with reports confirming that Nick Woltemade will soon become a Magpie, having agreed a club record deal to join.

Woltemade reportedly turned down Bayern Munich for Newcastle, a sign that the Magpies can still get transfer results against some of the biggest teams in the world.

While the 23-year-old is a marquee signing, Geordie Boot Boys understand that Newcastle want to sign a second striker this summer. One player believed to be on Newcastle’s list was reportedly Nicolas Jackson of Chelsea. However, Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that they have now missed out.

Nicolas Jackson set to join Bayern Munich on loan

Having missed out on players like Benjamin Sesko and Joao Pedro, the Magpies needed to look elsewhere for their new striker. Jackson was one option considered by Eddie Howe, though it was said that those inside Newcastle had their doubts about the Senegal international.

Newcastle had competition from Aston Villa and Bayern Munich for Jackson, and now it has been confirmed that he has joined the Bundesliga giants.

Enzo Maresca had ousted Jackson at Chelsea, so it was clear he needed a move, despite scoring 10 goals last season.

According to Romano, Jackson is joining Bayern for a loan with a €15m (£13m) fee. Bayern also have an option to buy worth €80m (£69.2m).

Should the deal be made permanent, Chelsea will benefit with a sell-on clause being included in the deal.

Why Newcastle United opted not to sign Nicolas Jackson

While Jackson has seemingly slipped away from Newcastle’s hands, they will be happy to land Woltemade before the transfer deadline.

The deal comes at a great time, with Alexander Isak still unwilling to play for Newcastle and the transfer window closing in two days. With Woltemade soon to be announced, the feeling is that Isak will now leave Newcastle and get the deal he has been so hopeful for.

Jackson is no doubt a quality player, but he gained an unreliable reputation in the Premier League, so perhaps a move away from the Premier League is best for him.

Additionally, Mark Douglas of inews posted on X that the terms of the loan were very expensive, and that there was a large penalty fee if the deal was not made permanent in 2026.

Newcastle must now look elsewhere for their Callum Wilson replacement and end the striker transfer saga once and for all.
