Lewis Miley has been desperate for his chance at Newcastle United and it would be fair to say that he took that on Saturday night.
The Newcastle United academy graduate stepped into the fold for Eddie Howe as Newcastle beat Everton 4-1 to end their away day curse in the Premier League.
Miley was making only his third start of Newcastle’s league campaign but was perhaps the star player at the Hill Dickinson Stadium in what was an utterly convincing victory.

The 19-year-old provided the assist from which Malick Thiaw scored the fastest goal in the Premier League this season (55 seconds) and later scored himself.
Geordie Boot Boys understands that Miley wanted to leave Newcastle on loan during the summer transfer window and while that was an understandable stance, he looks very much part of Howe’s plans now.
Miley has been desperate for his chance at Newcastle and he certainly grabbed it with both hands.

After the game, Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie spoke about Miley in a video posted on YouTube.
Downie revealed that he’d been speaking to Miley’s agents of late and they said that the player was simply desperate to get his chance.
“I’ve been speaking to his representatives recently and, you know, they’ve been saying that he’s been desperate to get a chance,” said Downie.
Miley enjoyed a brilliant breakout season during the 2023-24 campaign but injuries have since stunted his progress.

Eddie Howe admits what Lewis Miley just did for Newcastle United is “not normal”
Miley actually became the second-youngest Newcastle United player to ever score and assist in the same Premier League game.
The manner of his performance was mightily impressive, too. His goal may have been a howler from Jordan Pickford but the assist for Thiaw was brilliant.
So much has been made about Newcastle’s lack of threat from corners but it was excellent to see Miley deliver one that finally caused problems to the opposition.

Miley is set for talks over a new contract at Newcastle and that feels very wise indeed. His current deal is set to expire in the summer of 2029, but he could surely do with a reward.
After the game, Howe claimed that Miley was much more than “your normal average teenager.”
“When you see him play, he plays with a real maturity,” said Howe in his post-match press conference.
“He very rarely gets flustered about anything, he’s very level and very calm.
“Not your normal average teenager. The quality that he possesses, I think he’s always had.
“I think athletically, he’s getting better.”
