Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has transformed a number of players at the club and Sandro Tonali is no different.
While the money invested in Newcastle United by owners PIF has obviously helped Howe, the story of the club’s recent success is not purely down to finances.
Howe’s coaching has consistently improved players at Newcastle, with many of the stars he inherited from Steve Bruce finding a new lease of life under his watch.
Indeed, the Newcastle United manager has brought the likes of Fabian Schar, Joelinton, Miguel Almiron and Joe Willock to new levels during his time in charge of the club.
Tonali arrived at Newcastle in 2023 as a big-name player but even a star of his profile has improved while working with Howe and the rest of the Newcastle United coaching staff.
- Who is Sandro Tonali? Say salve to Newcastle United’s Italian midfield maestro
Sandro Tonali impressed by Eddie Howe’s coaching at Newcastle United
The former AC Milan star was already a major name in European football but that did not mean Howe would not bring new levels to his game.
Initially, Tonali struggled. There were suggestions that the Italian and Bruno Guimaraes could not play together and while there were flashes of his obvious quality, Newcastle fans still hadn’t really seen the best of him by the time he was banned from football for ten months in 2023.
Since his return, however, the 25-year-old has established himself as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League.
The player himself obviously needs to take credit for that but Howe’s work has not gone unnoticed, according to Craig Hope of The Daily Mail.
In a video posted on YouTube, Hope said: “From all the discussions I’ve had, Sandro Tonali appreciates that the player he is now. He is not the player who arrived here two and a half years ago.
“He has improved for being exposed to the Premier League, for playing at that level, for being exposed to Newcastle’s coaches.
“He’s an infinitely better player. That is why he would not even entertain the idea of going back to Juventus, Inter Milan, Roma, whoever it may be.
“He wants to stay in the Premier League. There’s no suggestion as of yet that that has to be somewhere other than Newcastle.”
Sandro Tonali shocked Newcastle United even before joining them
Such was his standing in European football, Newcastle were surprised that their interest in Tonali was actively being entertained in 2023.
Not even they seemed to think Milan would genuinely sell a young player who had already made such an impact on Italian football.
It’s not always been an easy ride for him on Tyneside but Tonali has surely proven even better than what was initially predicted.
Effectively under contract until the summer of 2030, they are lucky to have each other.
