Newcastle United could be denied by Wolves in the transfer market once again.

Indeed, four months after Newcastle United saw a series of bids rejected for Jorgen Strand Larsen, Wolves could keep another key player at Molineux.

Rob Edwards may have just claimed his first win in charge of the club but they still face a huge battle to stay in the Premier League.

Having picked up only six points from their opening 20 games, relegation to the Championship looks little short of a certainty.

Still, it seems even what looks like an imminent relegation will not tempt them into selling Mateus Mane in the January transfer window.

Wolves will not sell Mateus Mane to Newcastle United in January

The 18-year-old forward has impressed even despite a dreadful season at Molineux.

Mane scored a fine goal for Wolves as they beat West Ham last weekend and has been tipped for a move.

In fact, Newcastle have recently been linked with Mane, with the Magpies touted as one of several Premier League clubs who are assessing his situation.

Still, according to Alex Crook of talkSPORT on social media platform X, Wolves have little interest in selling the teenager in January.

He wrote: “I’m assured #Wolves have no plans to sell Mateus Mane this month. Is seen as a big part of their long-term future.”

Alan Shearer thinks Mateus Mane is outstanding

Mane would certainly fit the profile the club are looking at.

Those behind the scenes at Newcastle want to sign younger players and, at 18, the former Rochdale youngster clearly fits into that.

Able to operate in several positions across the frontline, Mane does look like a logical addition.

Clearly, he’s still got an awful lot to prove, and progress isn’t always linear, particularly in a team as bad as Wolves have been this season.

Interestingly, however, Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has liked what he’s seen from the teenager.

Speaking on BBC Radio Five Live after watching Mane score against West Ham, Shearer said: “Mateus Mane was absolutely outstanding.”

It will be fascinating to see if Newcastle act on their supposed interest this summer.
