The likes of William Osula and Kieran Trippier have been linked with Newcastle United exits ahead of the January transfer window.
Indeed, Eintracht Frankfurt want to sign Osula, who almost left Newcastle United back in September.
Meanwhile, Trippier is attracting interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia, and will have only six months left on his deal by the time the January window opens.
Hot take: Iâm starting to think Newcastle United should sell Kieran Trippier in January â prove me wrong
Would be painful but need to cash in while we can! đ
Newcastle have decisions to make ahead of January. There is a certain logic to selling Osula and Trippier, largely because neither get in the side when everyone is fit.
Still, Eddie Howe seemingly isnât too keen on the idea of letting players depart halfway through a campaign, but he did make something of an admission.
Eddie Howe confirms Newcastle United could sell players in January
The Newcastle United manager was asked about the prospect of selling players in January during his pre-match press conference ahead of the Boxing Day clash with Manchester United.
With options already limited and the games piling up thick and fast, Howe admitted he wasnât thrilled about the idea of players departing.
He did, however, claim that decisions will be taken on an individual basis. The door is not fully closed, it seems.
Newcastle United should SELL Will Osula â change my mind! đ°
âItâs not high on my agenda, with the squad that we currently have, to be losing players.
âBut I think weâll see as players return from injury, which is never a certain thing until they are actually back and performing.
âIf there is anyone in the squad that we feel, between us and them, would benefit from going, then weâll certainly look at it on an individual basis.â
The stalwart who could follow William Osula through the exit door at Newcastle United
Trippier and Osula arenât the only players who could depart in January.
In fact, Newcastle could also sell Jamaal Lascelles, with the stalwart having been linked with a move to Turkey in previous transfer windows.
Other than Trippier, selling any of them wouldnât have too much of an impact on the Newcastle United squad.
Osula and Lascelles barely feature when everyone is fit and though itâs understandable that Howe would want to keep as many players as possible, selling them would seem wise.
The Trippier case is slightly more difficult. Heâs much more likely to play than the other two but wonât do so regularly when Tino Livramento and Lewis Hall are fit.
Out of contract at the end of the season anyway, it may be wise to cash in if possible â as painful as it may be given all heâs done for the club.
