Eddie Howe believes Tino Livramento is set for a “good summer” despite a recent injury amid links suggesting the Newcastle United star could leave.
Livramento – who has been linked with a move away from the club this summer – has not played since suffering a groin injury against Bournemouth last month.
It was the latest blow in an injury-riddled campaign for the 23-year-old, amid doubts from other clubs about Livramento’s injury record. Though there are no doubts about his quality, injuries have derailed his progress all season.
Speaking ahead of Sunday’s Premier League clash with Nottingham Forest, Howe confirmed that the Newcastle United defender was unlikely to play again this season.
Newcastle plot ‘good summer’ for Livramento and won’t rush him back
When asked about the defender during his pre-match press conference, Howe – not always the most open about injuries and the like – said rather bluntly: “Tino is doing well. He is improving, back running on the grass, but I don’t think he will be back this season.
“We could maybe push him for the Fulham game but that would feel silly. We will let him recover and get a good summer behind him.”
Quite what Howe means by a good summer is up for debate. England name their squad for this summer’s tournament in the United States, Canada and Mexico later this month.
Livramento made two appearances for the Three Lions during the international break back in March after fellow right-back Reece James suffered an injury, and is also able to operate at left-back.
In total, the Newcastle defender has five caps for his country since making his debut in November 2024. With James not fully fit himself just yet, there was a genuine chance for Livramento to stake his claim as England’s starting right-back.
There is no suggestion he will miss the World Cup but missing the final few games of the season is clearly an unhelpful development given he is not yet an established player at international level.
Will Tino Livramento ever play for Newcastle again?
That has often appeared to be in doubt.
Indeed, Livramento is attracting major transfer interest ahead of the summer window and has only two years left on his contract.
Still, The Daily Telegraph recently claimed that it was now considered more likely that Livramento would sign a new deal on Tyneside despite reported interest from the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City.
His future, along with so many of his Newcastle teammates, has been the subject of much debate. With only two years left on his deal, a decision needs to be made relatively quickly if the club hope to sell for anything approaching maximum value.
