Kieran Trippier’s time at Newcastle United is coming to an end.
Trippier is surely one of the greatest signings in Newcastle United history and is generally seen as the player who set the standards at the club in the PIF era.
The veteran has made 138 appearances for the Magpies since joining from Atletico Madrid in January 2022, winning the Carabao Cup in the process.
If you could sign ONE Premier League player this month – who would it be?
However, the right-back is coming towards the end of his contract and there has so far been no official update on whether he will sign a new one.
Trippier has been linked with leaving Newcastle in January and while that may not happen, an exit this summer now feels likely.
Kieran Trippier unlikely to sign new Newcastle United contract
Indeed, Craig Hope of The Daily Mail offered an update on Trippier’s situation at Newcastle.
The 35-year-old is expected to return to action against Crystal Palace on Sunday following a recent hamstring injury.
His long goodbye to the club, however, could be set to begin.
If Kieran Trippier isn’t Newcastle United’s best-ever January transfer signing, who is?
That’s because Hope – while speaking on his YouTube channel – revealed that he simply doesn’t expect Trippier to sign a new contract.
With that in mind, an exit in the summer is inevitable even if he does stay during the January transfer window.
“Kieran Trippier, out of contract at the end of the summer [season], do I expect him to sign a new deal? No, I probably don’t,” he said.
Kieran Trippier could strike agreement to leave Newcastle United imminently
It may make financial sense for Newcastle to try and sell a player for money while they still can, but there’s as much logic in keeping Trippier at the club.
He is hugely experienced and still capable of offering something on the pitch, as he’s shown this season.
Tino Livramento and even perhaps Lewis Miley may be ahead of him in the pecking order but Trippier can still play a role.
Eddie Howe loves working with Trippier, and his leadership could be crucial during the second half of the campaign.
Trippier is now free to discuss a move to a foreign club and could even agree a pre-contract ahead of a summer move due to FIFA rules.
They state that players with six months left on their deals can negotiate with foreign clubs ahead of the summer transfer window.
