Yoane Wissa is finally up and running as a Newcastle United player, as he scored on his first start for the club.

The 29-year-old opened the scoring in Newcastle United’s win over Fulham on Wednesday night, as they advanced to the semi-final of the Carabao Cup.

It was a poacher’s goal from Yoane Wissa, who capitalised on a 10th minute mistake from Benjamin Lecomte after Jacob Murphy’s drilled cross. It was the kind of penalty box instinct that Newcastle United have been missing all season.

There was a clear change in Newcastle’s attacking approach with Wissa compared to Nick Woltemade, with the £55million man constantly trying to get in behind to score.

One goal behind already 👀 Who will score more this season, Wissa or Isak?

Yoane Wissa wanted Newcastle United teammates to give him the ball more

But while Wissa was always playing on the shoulder and wanting to be slipped in by a teammate, he did not always get his wish.

There were multiple moments in the first half at St James’ Park when a Newcastle United player failed to find him, with Harvey Barnes the most guilty when he turned into space not long before half-time.

The Magpies’ inability to find Wissa left the forward frustrated, with journalist Craig Hope highlighting the number nine’s body language during the first half against Fulham.

Hope wrote on X: “Twice now Wissa has screamed at team-mates for not finding him – he’s a nuisance & he’s a bother for his own & opposition, which is what a centre-forward should be. Still some shortcomings elsewhere on pitch so far, but he looks the lively presence the team has so badly needed.”

That kind of attitude and hunger is only going to result in Wissa scoring more and more goals for the Magpies. He is so different to Woltemade, and is the kind of poacher we have been crying out for.

More chances will come the more he plays with his new teammates, which should be a worrying thought for Newcastle United’s rivals.

Who was your MOTM against Fulham? For what it’s worth, I thought Jacob Ramsey was very good 😍😍

Malick Thiaw’s classy moment after Yoane Wissa’s first Newcastle United goal

There was a real roar when Wissa scored against Fulham. The first goal of any game is always celebrated wildly, but seeing Wissa find the back of the net meant more.

It has been tough without him, while he has worked so hard to regain his fitness. This was the culmination of his hard work, and now he can focus on doing what he does best – scoring goals.

After celebrating with his teammates, he was then forced to soak up the adulation from the Toon Army on his own.

He was pushed back in front of fans by Malick Thiaw, with Wissa going on to do his trademark celebration for the first time as a Newcastle United player.
