Eddie Howe believes sporting director Ross Wilson can give Newcastle United fans what they want in the transfer market.

Earlier this week, Wilson admitted Newcastle United could look at signing players from foreign markets as they aim to find better value for money.

During the summer transfer window, the club spent around ÂŁ100million on three players who have boasted Premier League experience.

While things could still change of course, none of them have significantly improved the squad. Anthony Elanga doesn’t yet convince, while Jacob Ramsey and Aaron Ramsdale have struggled for game time.

Newcastle fans were delighted that Wilson is ready to look at foreign markets and Howe is convinced the former Nottingham Forest chief can help the club do exactly that.

Eddie Howe ready to back Newcastle United plan to sign players from foreign leagues

Speaking to The Chronicle, the Newcastle United manager claimed he was on board with Wilson’s way of thinking.

“We have tried to utilise the foreign market without probably having the expertise in previous seasons that we need to make consistently good decisions in those markets,” he said.

“I think the foreign players we have signed from other leagues have done really well so that is certainly a route and an avenue that I would back and one I would support but, of course, you need the network, you need the people in the right places to help that process.

Does Newcastle United’s recruitment structure need a revamp? The focus on Premier League experience is WILD

Jacob Ramsey, Anthony Elanga and Aaron Ramsdale have all struggled this season…. 😟

“I think Ross will give us all of that. I think he will use his vast experience and build up his team and his method of work.”

Clearly, that doesn’t mean Newcastle will never sign a player from another Premier League club. It would be foolish to shut that door completely.

However, Howe believes Wilson’s experience can help with the process of unearthing slightly more hidden gems from abroad.

Some of the best signings at Newcastle during the PIF era have come from outside of the Premier League.

Malick Thiaw and Sandro Tonali arrived from Serie A. Bruno Guimaraes and Sven Botman were plucked out of Ligue 1.

Alexander Isak came from La Liga, while Nick Woltemade was brought in from the Bundesliga.

Why Premier League signings still can’t be ruled out at Newcastle United

Shopping from abroad has clearly been a productive thing at Newcastle in recent years.

Fans wanting that to continue makes sense. Such is the financial muscle of the Premier League, not many clubs from outside of England can match the likes of Newcastle financially.

However, it’s also important to remember that Newcastle have found major success when signing Premier League players, too.

Nick Pope, Dan Burn, Lewis Hall, Anthony Gordon and Tino Livramento have all been worth their weight in gold.

Though some of the recruitment decisions Newcastle made earlier this summer look strange, it’s not as if they’ve never had success with that kind of strategy before.
