The topic of Newcastle United’s progress, or lack thereof, this season is very much up for debate at the moment and Lewis Hall has now waded in to give his thoughts.
December was a strange month for Newcastle. Between defeats in the Tyne-Wear derby and to Man United, plus dropped points against Spurs, Chelsea, and Leverkusen, there was very little to cheer about.
How many points will Newcastle get here?
Surely anything less than 12 points would be unacceptable… 👀
Indeed, a double over relegation-threatened Burnley was the only real highlight when it comes to the Premier League. Newcastle begin 2026 in tenth place, but we should take that with a pinch of salt as that could all change after tonight’s round of games.
Alan Shearer looked on the bright side and suggested Newcastle can really begin to climb the table with positive results in the next few games. And it seems Lewis Hall is just as calm about the way things are going, too.
Lewis Hall stays positive about Newcastle’s season
Speaking to the Chronicle about the nature of Newcastle’s season and this particularly challenging run of form through December, Hall cited the mentality of the team behind the scenes as a major bonus.
He said: “We are always together no matter what the results are looking like. Whether we win, lose or draw we are always together. On a losing streak, the mentality of the team doesn’t change.
“Some teams don’t have that. It is a big plus for us.”
Indeed, while there is pressure and frustration from the outside, it does seem things are pretty calm internally at Newcastle. That’s reflected by the fact Eddie Howe is totally secure in his job despite the team’s struggles, and it feels as though there is always a belief things will improve.

If you could voice one concern to Eddie Howe about Newcastle United right now, what would it be?
Yes, I know we won, but let's not pretend that was great 😂
Eddie Howe mentality shared by Hall
If we look at the win over Burnley, there has been plenty of criticism over the performance. Newcastle lacked control and once again allowed a team to get back into the game despite early dominance.
But, as Howe said, the main thing was getting the win. And that’s a sentiment Lewis Hall can get behind.
He added: “We can play better for sure but when you come away from home sometimes that happens. But when you get the three points that’s all that matters.
“Sometimes you won’t have the best performance but it is just about getting the win.”
