Newcastle United allowed Callum Wilson to leave the club over the summer, but his West Ham United move is becoming a nightmare.
After five years at St James’ Park, Newcastle United said farewell to Callum Wilson this past summer.
The 33-year-old joined from Bournemouth in 2020 and racked up 49 goals in 130 appearances for the Magpies.
Wilson only scored once last season, though, and he suffered regular injury problems during his time in the North East.
West Ham snapped up Wilson on a free transfer as his Newcastle contract came to an end, but his time in East London is not going to plan.
West Ham United accept Callum Wilson mistake
Wilson was an unused substitute against Brentford on Monday night as West Ham fell to a 2-0 defeat.
Young forward Callum Marshall was introduced from the bench instead, with Wilson completely overlooked.
Wilson did play 65 minutes against Leeds United on Friday night, coming on as an early substitute with West Ham 2-0 down.
Wilson couldn’t help West Ham recover, as Nuno Espirito Santo’s side now sit second-bottom of the Premier League table.
The Times now claim that West Ham accept they made a ‘mistake’ by signing Wilson as their only attacking addition.
The belief inside West Ham is that they needed further goal threat and that relying on an ageing Wilson wasn’t the right move.
That means West Ham may move for another striker in January, throwing Wilson’s future into doubt .

Callum Wilson’s role in Newcastle United clash in doubt
West Ham’s next game is against Newcastle, meaning Wilson could face off against the Magpies.
It’s unclear just what kind of role Wilson will play, though, having started just one Premier League game this season.
Wilson would no doubt love to score against Newcastle as he looks to kickstart his West Ham career.
Nuno doesn’t appear to know his best West Ham side right now, and Wilson’s limited role doesn’t bode well for the striker.
Newcastle will ultimately look to pile on the misery for West Ham next weekend, whether Wilson starts or not.
