Aaron Ramsdale certainly enjoyed himself after making his first start for Newcastle United on Saturday.

Ramsdale stepped in for the injured Nick Pope as Newcastle United beat Everton 4-1 at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Only Eddie Howe knows if Pope would have started if he had been fully fit, although the 33-year-old was under increasing pressure following a series of high-profile mistakes.

Who was your MOTM against Everton?! So many to choose from, let us know your thoughts…

Either way, a change was made in goal and Pope’s understudy (at least so far) performed reasonably well.

Howe did admit that Ramsdale didn’t have much to do against Everton, so it’s not yet fair to draw many definitive conclusions.

Still, the Southampton loanee did well when called upon and wasn’t really to blame for Everton’s consolation goal.

Indeed, it was a big day for Ramsdale.

Aaron Ramsdale confirms he wants “many more games” at Newcastle United

Ramsdale celebrated his 250th career appearance in Saturday’s game on Merseyside.

It was a landmark day for him and he celebrated as such on Instagram

He posted a collage of images captioned: “250 career games. Hoping to add many more with this great football club soon. What a performance.”

It’s worth remembering that Ramsdale is only on loan from Saints and there’s no guarantee he will be signed permanently next summer.

With that in mind, the fact he confirmed he’s hoping for “many more games” for Newcastle is perhaps an indication as to his feelings on his future.

Eddie Howe on Aaron Ramsdale after Newcastle United beat Everton. Is this fair?

“Aaron, I think, showed his qualities with the ball at his feet today, he distributed the ball very well.

“Wasn’t overly worked necessarily in terms of shots but what he did have to handle, he did well.”

Aaron Ramsdale transfer fee set as Newcastle United weigh up permanent move

It will be fascinating to see what happens from here.

Pope may well return in goal once he’s fully fit but Ramsdale would now at least appear to have the chance to build some momentum.

The games are coming thick and fast right now and it would seem unlikely Pope would come back into the fray for Tuesday’s clash against Tottenham.

Southampton want around £20million for Ramsdale and it will be interesting to see if he does enough to convince the club to pay that kind of money in the summer of 2026.
