With Newcastle also looking to sign a goalkeeper this summer, the Magpies reignited their interest in Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford. The 22-year-old has reportedly agreed personal terms with Newcastle, but the two clubs remain locked in talks over his transfer fee.
Fabrizio Romano has stated that Newcastle and Burnley’s talks for Trafford are continuing, but a deal may not be struck until July.
Trafford is coming off a record-breaking season at Burnley, having kept 29 clean sheets in the Championship. Howe is eager to have Trafford compete with Nick Pope for the number one shirt on Tyneside.

Atalanta defender Giorgio Scalvini linked with Newcastle United move
After being linked with a move in 2024, Giorgio Scalvini is believed to be in Howe’s thinking once again. The 21-year-old made just eight appearances in all competitions last season after suffering two serious injuries, including an ACL tear.
