What is even the point of the survey?!

Newcastle United fans have been asked for their thoughts on the club’s new badge.

It has been announced that Newcastle United will design a new club crest. That is because the Magpies’ current badge is not suitable for the digital world, due to it being so intricate.

As Newcastle United aim to become more visible globally, the decision has been made to replace the badge that the club have used since 1988.

Unsurprisingly, fans are not happy with Newcastle’s decision. It is extremely disappointing that the club are planning to replace their iconic crest, at a time when Newcastle look set to leave St James’ Park too.

Newcastle’s stadium decision could be unveiled soon, with the owners’ preference being to build a new ground rather than expand their current home.

The questions Newcastle United fans have been asked about the new badge

While supporters await news on the fate of St James’ Park, they have been asked to help the club design a new badge.

A survey has been sent out to season ticket holders and club members, asking for their views on the new Newcastle United badge.

The first part of the survey is a video detailing the history of the Newcastle United badge, before explaining why it is necessary for a change to be made.

Supporters are then asked if they understand the issues the club have with the current badge based on the information they have been given in the video.

The next part of the survey asks fans to agree or disagree with the following statement: “We should honour our heritage by updating the existing crest instead of completely overhauling it.”

Fans are then asked to rate the importance of elements of the current badge on a scale of one to 10, with one meaning ‘not important’ and 10 meaning ‘very important’. The elements of the badge that have been asked about are: Lion, shield, flag, ribbon with Newcastle United, seahorses and castle.

Finally, supporters are given the opportunity to share any other thoughts that they would like the club to consider.

Fans react to ‘awful’ Newcastle United badge survey

Considering the size of the issue and the reaction it was always going to receive from Newcastle United fans, it is far from the most in-depth survey.

That is the view of a lot of Toon fans on social media, who are not happy with questions they have been asked about the club’s new badge.

One supporter wrote on X: “The survey that accompanies the email about the crest change is absolutely awful. It’s extremely narrow and leading, presumably to feed the club with the narrative they want to push about it. Very little in terms of meaningful questions.”

Another added: “Hey @NUFC, I don’t want anything done to the crest, think your survey is abysmal and your reasoning absurd.”

A third Newcastle fan commented: “The soul of our club disappears more every day. The survey itself is a joke, it’s not should we do this it’s we are doing this and how do you feel about it. Way to cash in on the goodwill from the cup win. Soon there will be nothing unique about our club.”

“That email/survey pretty such says we’ve got a few new designs already but we need to make you think you’re going to be included in the process,” wrote this Newcastle United supporter.

Another Toon fan wrote: “Proper grim from the club. Sliding into the corporate abyss and losing the heart and soul of the team we all love, one thing at a time. That survey amounts to nothing.”

Finally, a sixth supporter wrote: “It’s shocking let’s be honest. Whole thing stinks.”
