The January transfer window is just days away, but the latest transfer rumour around Newcastle United doesn’t really make any sense.
It’s safe to say Newcastle United need reinforcements in the New Year. The Magpies are in the midst of an injury crisis right now, particularly in the defensive area.
Sign a new right winger in January or wait for Anthony Elanga to come good?
For a minute, in this make believe fantasy land, let's forget about PSR 😂
Eddie Howe has made it clear he wants to sign a new full-back and another midfielder. At the same time, the Newcastle attack is looking pretty blunt at times.
Essentially, Newcastle need a lot of new signings, but they won’t be able to fund them all. So, is Oscar Bobb really a logical target for January?
Newcastle have been offered Oscar Bobb
Reports this weekend suggested Newcastle would be offered Oscar Bobb, potentially on a loan deal, with the Man City ace struggling for game time.
It’s said the likes of Sevilla are also keen, while Crystal Palace might make a move, too. Apparently, everything hinges on City’s hopes of signing Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth.
While Anthony Elanga continues to struggle at Newcastle, the prospect of an exciting new winger arriving on Tyneside is very appealing. However, this problem is not one that you can necessarily just throw more and more money at and hope to eventually fix.
Granted, Bobb could well come in and be an instant hit. Given his quality, he more than likely would. But, Newcastle simply have to invest elsewhere or there’s no point having a player like Bobb.

Who is Newcastle’s best ever January signing? ✍
Newcastle do not need Oscar Bobb right now
For a start, Newcastle have to make things work with Elanga. The club cannot afford to spend £55m on a player only to replace him six months later.
He may be struggling when it comes to his end product, but Elanga is creating chances and we all know he’s got the talent to come good eventually. The system just isn’t working for him right now, but the same could be said for plenty of Newcastle players.
Regardless, with Newcastle’s injury issues taking their toll on the squad, even a loan move for Bobb would be a costly move in the wrong direction for Howe and co. The likes of Tino Livramento, Sven Botman, and Dan Burn are out for a while, and that problem has to be addressed as a priority.
If Newcastle can sign a couple of defenders and potentially fill that midfield gap Howe has identified, then signing Bobb would be a brilliant way to round out the window. Until then, he should remain a dream and a luxury that may have to be missed this time around.
