Kieran Trippier has been quite the servant for Newcastle United as he reaches four years with the club, but is the end in sight?
There’s a valid argument to be made that, in terms of pound-for-pound value, there has been no better signing than Kieran Trippier in the PIF era.
Hot take: I’m starting to think Newcastle United should sell Kieran Trippier in January – prove me wrong
Would be painful but need to cash in while we can! 👀
His leadership and passion set the tone for this new age at Newcastle United and fans have loved his contributions over the years.
However, with game time being limited of late due to injury, there are suggestions Eddie Howe will let Trippier leave Newcastle this month, or at the very least, in the summer. But, for now, let’s take a moment to celebrate everything he’s achieved on Tyneside.

Four years since Kieran Trippier signed for Newcastle United
After swapping Spurs for Spain in 2019, Trippier became Newcastle’s first major signing in the PIF regime in January 2022. He cost the Magpies roughly £12m.
He’s since made 138 appearances for the club, has served as captain for much of his spell in the North East, and proved himself an invaluable leader both on and off the pitch.
Obviously, the signing of Tino Livramento, and more recently the emergence of Lewis Miley as an option at right-back, have limited Trippier’s opportunities.
At 35-years-old, he’s not getting any younger and it will soon be time to bring his career to an end. When he does leave, Trippier will go out a Newcastle United hero, having ushered in a bright new dawn for the club and helping secure that all-important trophy last year.

Name a better signing than Kieran Trippier in the PIF era at Newcastle United…
Eddie Howe hints at Trippier’s future
Obviously, Trippier’s contract is set to expire in the summer. There have been doubts as to whether Newcastle want to keep Trippier, and his teammate, Fabian Schar, for some time now.
But, in his latest press conference, Howe offered a hint as to what will happen to the experienced duo.
When asked if a new contract could be in the pipeline for either, Howe said: “There’s definitely a possibility. These things take care of themselves… but we haven’t had huge conversations over contracts. Time and performances will dictate what happens beyond this season.
“We have had loose discussions but we are all aware that the injury situation influences our work in the market. We are working behind the scenes and if we need to move we can, but we have to be mindful of PSR and need to keep an eye on what direction we take.”
Selling Trippier now would obviously help to bring in some funds and go towards balancing the books a little, but it’s far more likely that Newcastle will keep hold of him as cover for the squad until the summer.
