It was a big night for Yoane Wissa as he made his first start for Newcastle United and scored to mark the occasion.
After spending £55m on him this summer, it’s safe to say Newcastle fans were itching to see what kind of impact Yoane Wissa could have. They got their wish just ten minutes into the clash with Fulham last night.
Who was your MOTM against Fulham? For what it’s worth, I thought Jacob Ramsey was very good 😍😍
Wissa’s goal had fans excited, as did his energy and movement off the ball. In fact, their only complaint was that his teammates weren’t finding him often enough.
It was a brilliant full debut for the striker and one that will give him — and supporters — plenty of confidence for the weeks ahead. And now, Wissa has been given the seal of approval from another Newcastle icon.

Papiss Cisse comments on Yoane Wissa goal
Obviously, social media was flooded with support and celebration for Wissa, but one comment stood out from the crowd.
Former Newcastle United hero Papiss Cisse popped up in the Instagram comments section of the club’s post in the wake of the Fulham win to say “The new nine”, along with a bunch of emojis including a love heart and a fire symbol.
The fact that Cisse, who also wore the number nine shirt at St. James’ Park, is backing Wissa to take up that important legacy means a lot. Now, Wissa has to live up to the hype.
Judging by Wissa’s signal of ambition after the game, when he said he wants to win the Carabao Cup again for Newcastle, it’s safe to say he’s on the right path.

Eddie Howe’s reaction to Yoane Wissa performance
From former players to his current manager, everyone was quick to praise Wissa for his display against Fulham, and rightly so.
Speaking after the game, Eddie Howe said: “It was a really positive night for him, in lots of ways. He took his goal really well and he will only get better for the minutes.”
Indeed, amid a growing injury crisis at Newcastle, the fact that Wissa got more than 70 minutes under his belt and looked so sharp is a massive boost for the whole club.
Now, we’re all just waiting to see what happens when Wissa and Nick Woltemade are paired together. It could be a truly magical partnership, and hopefully we see it soon.
