Nick Woltemade found the perfect word to describe Newcastle United defender Malick Thiaw following Saturday’s huge Premier League win over Manchester City.
Harvey Barnes bagged a brace as Newcastle United beat Manchester City 2-1 to record a statement Premier League victory.
While the victory does not answer every single question about this Newcastle United team, it was still a fine way to respond to recent criticism.
Who was your Newcastle United MOTM against Manchester City?
Newcastle deserved their win over Man City and could well have scored more goals than they actually did.
They also defended well, with Thiaw crucial to that. Erling Haaland did not get much joy out of him at all.
Indeed, Woltemade’s social media message to Thiaw summed it all up.
Nick Woltemade hails “quality” Malick Thiaw after Newcastle United beat Man City
Following the game, Thiaw took to social media platform Instagram.
He captioned a post: “Big Night, Big Fight, Big Result at St. James!”
Woltemade was among those who responded and simply replied: “quality!!!”
Newcastle fans will be running out of superlatives to describe Thiaw.
The German international has been a fine addition to the squad and looks a genuine bargain at a reported price tag of around £34.3million.
Erling Haaland’s poor record against Newcastle United continues
Haaland probably should have scored twice.
Once in the first half when he shot high and wide after Nick Pope rushed out to pressure him, again once when he shot directly at the Newcastle United goalkeeper.
Harvey Barnes double sinks Manchester City
Still, Haaland struggling to score against Newcastle is becoming something of a theme.
In fact, the Norway star – widely regarded as the best striker in the world – has bagged only one goal in seven games against the Magpies.
Thiaw certainly played a big part in that poor record continuing on Saturday.
Woltemade is right, Thiaw is pure quality.
In one particular moment, he timed a tackle perfectly to deny the Norway star the chance to bear down on goal.
The two Germans have been the standout players from Newcastle’s expensive summer transfer window.
Without those two in the side, the Premier League standings this season would surely look an awful lot worse.
