The latest Newcastle United transfer news in the William Osula saga broke just before the team played Crystal Palace on Sunday.
With not many incomings expected at Newcastle United this month, much of the focus is on the likes of Osula.
Indeed, both Eintracht Frankfurt and Aston Villa want to sign Osula, but he remains on the club’s books as he battles to come back from an injury.
If you could sign ONE Premier League player this month – who would it be?
It will be fascinating to see what happens with the forward this month. The Dane almost left for Germany in September but that deal was blocked.
Osula has played well for Newcastle when called upon and while Eddie Howe has suggested there’s little chance he leaves on a permanent deal, it seems those in Germany aren’t giving up hope.
Eintracht Frankfurt continue transfer talks with Newcastle United over Will Osula
According to German football expert Florian Plettenberg, Frankfurt still want to sign the 22-year-old.
That is despite the fact they have signed forward Younes Ebnoutalib from Elversberg and are set to land Nottingham Forest’s Arnaud Kalimuendo on loan.
Injuries to current forwards Jonathan Burkardt and Michy Batshuayi mean Frankfurt remain in the market for another forward.
Plettenberg adds that Osula has already agreed terms on a move to the Bundesliga side and that talks with Newcastle are “ongoing”.
How badly have Newcastle United treated William Osula this season?
Blocked from leaving, hardly used and then potentially sold in January…
Howe doesn’t see Osula leaving Newcastle United in January
The Osula situation is very strange indeed.
After all, Howe said he doesn’t expect Osula to leave Newcastle in January.
Speaking before the Palace game, Howe revealed: “There’s no expectation from me that Will will leave.”
With that in mind, it’s strange to imagine him suddenly departing.
Of course, Howe is hardly going to come out and confirm there are transfer talks, and it would be logical for him to want to keep Osula, given how many matches his team have to play this season.
Still, while letting him leave without a replacement would be a risk, there is some logic to it.
Newcastle can only sell when there’s a buyer and Frankfurt certainly appear to be keen.
